Recently, my mother who lives in Dallas, TX came to Idaho to visit me. Oddly enough, her cousins from Chicago were vacationing in Park City, UT so we decided to drive down for a visit. It is only a 3 1/2 – 4 hour drive, depending on the lead in your foot. I forgot to bring a cooler with me, so on the return trip, I did not make or pick up lunch for us because I didn’t want it to bake in the car. In addition, my air conditioning was coming in and out and the car was ridiculously hot…which turned out NOT to be a good sign! But that is another story.
We stopped at an exit at lunch time because my mother was hungry. One of the few options available to us was Burger King so we stopped there. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Burger King, of all places, had a MorningStar Veggie Burger on its menu. It is automatically prepared with mayo and cheese, so if you are vegan, remember to request it without those items. It also comes with lettuce, tomato and onion, and I asked for pickles too.
It was delicious and was a nice option to have when someone else wants to go to Burger King or if it is one of the few food options you might have when traveling. It is always best to be prepared with your own food, but in a pinch it worked out well.
I am not sure why more Fast Food restaurants do not have more vegan and vegetarian options. McDonald’s actually serves a McVeggie Burger in India along with fries made without beef tallow. They have the items already, why not offer them in the U.S.???
